Solace
She watches the little dark face until her vision begins to blur. Not from tears, from the inanity to hold focus, her eyes are glazed and dry.
Then Rou is there, close, too close - stirring panic in her chest.
No, no, no.
Leave us alone, we are fine. He will get up in a moment. Go away. Let me make this better. Come back in a minute.
Get up, little brother.
In her mind, she touches him, he breaths, he leaps to his feet much like the first time they had met on the beach when her mother's milk had been all that was needed to bring him back from deaths valley. In her mind, he is running off for another game of chase - a game which doesn't end in sadness.
But her imagination is far from reality and in reality, she doesn't move, doesn't blink, her words are only spoken in her mind.
Only Svedka breaks her trance, her head turning slowly towards her twin. She finds the strength to stand in those clear blue eyes of his.
Yes, he is tired. Poor little thing, he always did need more sleep than us.
But her mouth remains shut as she stands, clumps of blood and mud marring her perfect white knees. Without a word, Solace leans on her twin, following wherever he may lead like a lamb - only truly realizing what she already knew as they put what is now the past behind them.
Her chest rattles with a sob and she chokes on the emotion washing over her in ugly gasps. With a groan Solace breaks into a gallop, leaving her twin, a trail of tears streaming behind her.
you are my sunshine
