    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Ilma
And there's a lesson waiting to be learned
the firestarters always get the burns
and the good guys never get the girl

In fact, Ilma has only screamed once in her life in Beqanna. Not even the man who'd intruded on her without consent; no, she'd been so scared and confused at even his want to do so that it had been over before she could. But she'd outed one panicked scream at Svedka, after; simply for being male and touching her unexpectedly. Not that she had ever minded him touching her before or after that one time, it was simply the ghost of her earlier fear of men. But he's kind to her, and she never will again scream at him in her lifetime, or so she hopes.

Some would say the colt looks more like his father - but not knowing Rapt nearly as much as Kag, Ilma sees that he is more like his mother than he might suspect, himself. His patches for one, mimic hers, in size as well as, roughly, placement on his body. Of course, the champagne colour is clearly not similar to hers, but the shape of his head is, the characteristic Arabian lines showing predominantly. As well as of course, the familiarity in his scent, just like Svedka and Solace have a similarity in smell. But above everything - he can be as rash as she, as he is now, and she can only smile which undoubtedly would add to his suspicion and confusion.

She knows she'll have to clear the air soon, so she nods at him, ignoring the accusatory tone he outs when he ducks his head in shame and says sorry. Clearly he'd been brought up better than that, so she shakes her head at him. "Don't be. You have every right to ask. I am Ilma, and I've been a friend of your mother's for a little longer than that you exist. I'm sorry to say I've only known you as the enlargement of her belly." She smiles a bit crookedly. "She told us your name, later, but she never brought you here." Her voice sounds sadder than she feels at the moment, regretting that she'd never pushed her friend about introducing her family to Hyaline. And honestly, Kagerus still hadn't introduced him to her after he'd arrived, so busy as she seemed to be with her own family lately that she'd almost ignored her friend.

She couldn't really blame her dreamer friend, of course. The white woman had not been so outgoing herself either, really not letting in on most horses surrounding her, with maybe the one exception. But she's making a better effort, now that her son has been born. "You look like your mother, and have her ways about you." she adds. There had been no doubt that he would be Abysm, and he'd just confirmed her suspicion after all.

and shooting stars cannot fix the world

@[abysm] don't worry about it, she knows how to deal with Kag, too Tongue
Any fool knows men and women think differently at times, but the biggest difference is this: men forget, but never forgive; women forgive, but never forget.
