    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The beginning of forever; Aten, Kalil Birthing
    #6
Aten shook his head to Lethia's question, "Not since before three days ago. It's been hanging around me, I noticed. It never got close to me, but the way it used to watch me..."

The golden stallion's eyes were on the marbled cat as it finally seemed to get over whatever was holding it back and make it's way down to the ground from it's branch. When it did so, the feline walked calmly toward the three horses, it's gait calm but poised and smooth like despite not hunting, it was on the prowl.

The feline did not make a sound as it got close, it's gaze going over all three horses. It's eyes were focused, calm, but there was a searching that Aten recognized when he and Turul used to look at each other when first understanding their bond. The searching look remained even after the feline's eyes became focused on Kalil again, something that had already happened several times.

Aten went back over the feline's actions, realizing that even though it would look at Aten and Lethia on occasion, it always went back to the newborn foal at the mare's side. The stallion's thoughts swam for a while before an idea formed in his mind, something that Lethia might consider crazy and dangerous, but then again, that was half of Aten's bachelorhood while living in the Forest and during his first year back in Taiga.

Stepping behind Kalil, the stallion gently nosed the colt's rump to encourage him to step forward. Kalil squealed at the action, obviously not very happy, but Aten just looked at his son calmly, hoping he would understand. The colt stomped a front hoof in protest, but Aten just nosed him forward again, the colt's stubbornness no match for the stallion's strength.

The feline tilted it's head when it heard the colt squeal, but other than that, showed no reaction. When Aten finally got Kalil within a few yards' distance of the feline, he left the colt alone to see what he would do. Kalil looked toward the stallion, then back at the feline. He repeated this action again before deciding to investigate, having been intrigued by the feline from when he first saw it.

Kalil's steps forward were careful, observing, but the feline showed no signs of moving. It stood there calmly, watching Kalil, almost excitedly now that the colt was coming closer. When Kalil was within reach, he lowered his tiny head and stretched his neck out to smell the feline, his muzzle twitching as his nostrils inhaled the feline's scent.

The feline, meanwhile, did the same, it's much tinier nose twitching back and forth like a rabbit's. When they had enough time to become accustomed to each other's scents, Kalil shuffled his front hooves, not sure of what to do. The feline made the first move, walking toward Kalil and rubbing itself against his front leg. When it had done so, the feline's hind legs gathered under it's body and propelled it upward, easily landing on the colt's back.

Kalil was understandably shaken by this, but something in his gut told him he didn't need to be afraid. He turned his head around and sniffed the cat again, the feline purring as it sat upon the colt's back. A moment of silence passed before a tiny smile appeared on Kalil's lips and he squealed with happiness, giving a foal buck and trotting in a circle as the feline managed to hang on.

Aten, having fought back any negative action to see what would happen, watched with intrigue, and then smiled at his son's positivity. He glanced at Lethia, "I guess that mystery was solved."
