    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

look me in the eye, feel the temperature arise.

It had been almost five days since Genasi shared a painful goodbye with her mother. Though she knew it was something that would eventually happen, she did not realize how unprepared she was and how sudden it had been. She wasn't ready, and she did not want to be alone. It only took a few days alone in her home, the Brilliant Pampas, before she could no longer just sit and cry over the separation. She knew it was time to set out to do what her mother had intended, go out and find her own path in life. Though this was difficult for her, she knew it had to be done. She had followed the familiar paths her mother used to lead her through to the commons, but never before had she ventured down any others. She only had gone where her mother deemed safe, so once she stood at the edge of her beloved home's territory that bordered Sylva, she trembled. One more step and she would be in a whole new territory, and not only that, she would have no idea where she was going. Her long spiney fins quivered with each shaking breath as she strode forward cautiously. Though she was not a foal anymore, she was a very sheltered three year old. Her entire life she had been coddled by her mother, never knowing the hardships of life outside of the Pampas. She feared this journey, for she knew not the dangers that lie ahead.

She continued on, taking only short breaks for rest, as she was very much terrified of being attacked in her sleep or worse. It was a long journey, and her hooves were sore from the varying terrain that she was not accustomed to. Though it was not long before she reached a shoreline. As she gazed across the rolling waves, she could see a land mass not too far from shore. Curious, she waded into the water. Treading waves and trudging deeper and deeper until her striped face completely disappeared within the waves. She was so relieved to take the strain off of her legs as she effortlessly slithered through the depths, the sunlight above casting rippling dapples over her sleek golden streaked body. Her large scaled tail whipped powerfully through the water, propelling her at a high speed until she could feel sand underhoof.

She emerged from the depths, a glistening child with curiosity and a hint of doubt and sadness in her golden eyes. Though she was curious, she now felt a creeping wave of anxiety flowing through her body. She had no idea where she was. Her mother was gone, her sister was gone, and she only knew of her father's name. Ivar. Otherwise, she had not met him, as her mother was a fleeting creature that liked not to be held to one place, or person for that matter, for very long. Genasi wondered if she should just turn around, go back to the Pampas, but it was too late now. She had already come this far, despite not knowing where she was or how much further she could even manage to travel. In her heart she knew she had to stop and rest for real. Dark clouds began to cover the dark sky as she stood in the shallows and contemplated her options, and a light rain began to hit the water with a soft hissing sound that calmed her nerves slightly. She wished her mother was here to guide her to a safe place to rest, she longed for her confidence and her loving words of encouragement. Tears streamed down her dished face, and she could not stop herself from sobbing. Now more than ever, she needed a strong voice to guide her to become a better and more confident version of herself.
