    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

let my shadows prove the sunshine

The battle in the meadow has been long since gone from the stallion’s mind. Different matters plague him and perhaps had certain things not happened the way they had, he would have easily sought out Vastra long ago. But even now he can feel the overwhelming tightness in his shoulder; all gnarled and red, reminding him constantly of how he had passed from one life to the next, all to be ripped back in a blink of an eye. He still struggles to understand the purpose the dark god had in doing so - why not leave him there?

There are other things that remind him that his ‘adventure’ was not just a nightmare. Carnage has given him two children, one that eerily mimics the demeanors of both fathers and one that reflects Svedka’s lion in ways that he, even as her father, could not ignore.

Among it all, Svedka feels as though a piece of him feels is missing -  as if something had been left behind in that terrible place where his lion self was completely separate. It consumes him, this idea, and he is placidly staring up at the warm rays of sunlight as they filter through the thick canopy of the jungle, lost in thought. Her scent brings forth a tidal wave of memories and feelings, causing him to jerk his head around and snort sharply. Had the magic still stirred within him prior to Carnage, he would have shifted. Even now, there is an inkling to do so.

    But nothing happens.

And, strangely enough, Svedka feels disappointed.

The sun-and-sky stallion turns around slowly, following the familiar scent with steady and unhurried steps. There is much that Vastra would find different about him physically upon seeing him, though not even for a moment does he wonder what she will think about his inability to shift into the creature she remembers.

Upon seeing her, he cannot help the lazy smile that finds his pink lips. Out of habit, probably, as there is still so much unhealed within him, but it felt natural and good to relapse into that charming, gentle attitude that he knows so well.

“Took you long enough,” he huffs at her, coming to a halt a few lengths before her.
