    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

She's always been considered the odd one out. Whether it was because of her coat color, or the fact that she was a mare, it never mattered to her. It was always thought that the brindled mare couldn't fight, given most at first believed she'd had the cushy life of a stallion protecting her as she grew up.

    If only they knew...

Raxa had seen a lot of things. She'd learned to fight in order to protect herself from predators and stallions alike. She wasn't a fan of being considered the property of another, especially the narcissistic ones. The only reason those ones ever came near her was to prove that they could have any mare they wanted, just because they were a stallion. Raxa was not going to let that happen.

She was going to prove that she did not need a stallion to watch over her. That she didn't need to be protected because she was a mare. She would prove that she was a mare that could fight. She didn't need the life of a herd mare to make her happy. She needed her independence, her freedom, and others to understand she wasn't some poor misunderstood mare that had been discriminated against her entire life.

And it looked like this stallion would be the first to learn that lesson.

These were the first mock battles of the army since the Amazons had come to ask about the treaty between the two kingdoms. Raxa had seen this stallion around the territory, had heard about him from a couple of the mares in the area. They did have good things to say about him, that he was loyal, a good warrior, and someone to be trusted. It didn't mean Raxa believed them though; she hardly believed anything anybody said. She had a right to that.

Raxa pawed at the ground, ears flat against her skull as she faced the over stallion a couple of feet away. She knew that these were only mock battles, but no matter the kind, she fought hard. She had to, to prove herself.

That's the only thing that mattered to her. It was the only way she could make anybody respect her. They didn't otherwise.

Walking toward the stallion, Raxa kept her head low, baring her teeth as she got closer. Then, quick as a flash, she raced forward the rest of the way, stopping short of the stallion and rearing high into the air. Although she was slightly shorter than the stallion, she wouldn't let that deter her. She struck out with her front legs, aiming her toughened hooves toward the stallion's neck as she started coming down.
