Everything had happened so fast, and he felt ill adjusted to it all. At times he felt overwhelmed, with the sudden responsibilitites, the insta-family, the friends… It was a shock to the system. And sometimes he had to escape it all. He found refuge in the forest, the meadow, as his children grew and desired their independence.
He missed his sunshine, though. They hadn’t spoken for a little while, and while that wasn’t too concerning because they were both rather busy horses (or rather, she was busy, and he was busy looking busy), she was always on his mind, or at least on the back of it, radiant in her sun-gold and her splendour.
He hears his name being spoken, and he recognises that voice almost instantly. He scans the crowd of horses for her face, and, finally alighting upon her familiar features, he smiles and heads towards her, to wrap her in a warm, strong hug.
”Maribel.” he says softly, more to himself than anything. ”I have missed you.” because the time for shyness and hidden feelings was past now, her little shining star of a heart had melted him and his ice.
Had she missed him, though?
