    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

the words she knows the tune she hums

The ebony mare guided the Grullo foal back to her and Phaedrus' home in the Golden Plains. The foal was full of emotions, being abandoned by her family and trying to find her sister. Zara's heart hurt for the foal, she did not understand how an equine could just dump there child off forgetting about them forever. The walk was rather silent but it was peaceful to watch the curious foal interested in everything life has to offer.

They finally reached the golden plains and Zara smiled This is your home now she gently nuzzled the foal on her back before looking at the large beautiful field. Wallace was lucky to be seeing the field during the summer, it was full of plants that made it look like a golden field. Butterflies flew all around the field and the occasional squirrel would run through the plants. It was very lonely in the Golden Plains, she has not seen Phaedrus since her last daughter was born almost two years ago, and her dear friend Besra has been gone for longer than that. A small sigh escaped her maw in the thoughts but she looked down to the helpless foal and a smile grew once again. I hope you will like it here, when you get older I will bring you to the kingdom a gentle laugh escaped her maw and she trotted forward looking back to ensure the filly could keep up.

Wallace followed Zara from the adoption den closely, faithfully trained at her side. It was the most subservient thing she had done yet, but she found she hadn't minded it. It was like having a mother again. It was having a mother again; Zara had adopted her as her own. And the mare was clearly a very good mother. Not once had she ever gone too fast for the filly to keep up. At times she would slow and give Wallace time to study all the sights, and when the perceptive mare noticed her getting bored of it they'd pick up speed again.

Zara slowed them to an easy lope when the land sprouted gently sloping hills. The grasses blanketing them were a rich green, full of life. The air was clear and as sweetly crisp as a ripe apple Wallace could almost taste it. After glancing about, she looked to Zara and saw a new light in her eyes. This must be home, she thought as she turned back to the scenery, still keeping close to the mare as they continued steadily forward.

Her grayed grullo coat warmed comfortably in the sun as the land around them shifted to a vast but lively field. The grasses were golden here, but wildlife skittered to and fro happily. Her eyes glanced around hungrily, taking in the sight of her new home. Zara caressed her back then, and claimed it their home. She shivered at the touch but didn't mind it. Maybe even liked it a little. Wallace heard the mare sigh and looked at her curiously. She looked a bit sad about something but smiled again as she looked down at the filly.

I hope you will like it here, when you get older I will bring you to the kingdom, she said to Wallace. The girl raised her chin arrogantly, knowing full well she would do whatever she wished, but held her tongue. She was growing to respect the gentling mare and did not wish to have Zara upset at her for anything. She was secretly worried that she was easily replaced or forgotten, doubting her mother or sister looked for her as thoroughly as she had tried to search for them. Otherwise, they would have found each other, surely. The girl buried these thoughts, assuring herself she didn't need anyone anyway.

The rich black mare laughed sweetly and suddenly trotted forward. Wallace's ears perked up instantly, and her eyes lit with interest. She couldn't help the gentle tug of play and bounded forward, a child's excited whinny escaping her. In the back of her mind, she wondered if there were others nearby as she had yet to spot them, but focused on giving chase to her new caretaker, finally smiling.

    Clarisse
She felt as if she was one of the only few that lingered in her father's territory. He had been ever so absent once Rustic and her were of age to leave the gorgeous herdlands. In fact her own twin had parted with her with her fathers absence, sometimes she wondered if Rustic had taken to kingdom life in the dale and upheld some sort of diplomatic rank. Somehow being separated from her twin she felt as if a piece of her whole was missing, it had been so long since she's seen any of her family, or anyone in fact.

Familiar faces were rare, it was like the herd land was in a slumber. It was no longer bountiful with life as it once bloomed in her childhood. With Gyps, Rustic, Josie, Wolfish, Steris, and the youngest of the bunch Analiese. Josie was the first to venture out, Clarisse heard she found her home in the Tundra. Then Gyps was traded to Cobblestone creek and, the others she couldn't even imagine where they would be about now. But most of them had vanished paving their own safe passage through life and, it seemed she was the only child of the bunch that stayed.

Ebony lobes flick as a silhouette of one, wait two figures peek over the horizon. Somehow a smile tugged at the corners of her lips, it had been so long since she'd seen any life within Golden Plains. She didn't smile to often either, ever since Rustic left she felt like something was missing. Allowing her shill vocals to call out she totted over towards the pair, "Hello! Um-Zara?" She wasn't too good with names and she was sure the mare probably didn't know of her either. "I'm Clarisse, Phaedrus & Roma's child." She introduced herself, allowing her head to dip before placing her gentle gaze upon the little being.

"Hi there. What's your name?" She questioned allowing her tail to lash out at the little pests that buzzed about her inky black body. She hardly saw foals, and sining the little filly brought little sparks of memories of her childhood with her sister and the others playing about with their father after the herd meeting. It was the last time she saw Josie before she left.

the words she knows the tune she hums

Zaras heart was warm once again, it was as if she had a family again. Analiese was a yearling now, almost two and an angsty teenager at this point. Wallace filled a hole that she had, her foals all grown and Phaedrus almost vanished from the herd and kingdom. They tailed alongside each other, almost as if they could read each others minds, slowing when needed and moving faster when boredom struck.

They reached the Plains, and Wallace seemed estatic over her new home, it caused a smile to curl on her lips. She was pleased that the young foal was pleased with the Plains, accepting of her new home.

As the two were playing in there new home, Zara stopped as she heard the voice of another, It was a familiar face but she couldn't exactly pin point the mares name. She stepped closer to Wallace and the other mare introduced herself as Clarisse, daughter of Roma. Her ears flicked forward and she dipped her head in greeting Hello Clarisse, how have you been? her tone was gentle, the last time Zara saw this mare she was but a young foal. Clarisse was close to Analiese's age but if she remembered correctly, Clarisse was born a year earlier. The dark mare proceeded to speak to Wallace, it was some nice interaction for the filly. She would have introduced her to Clarisse, but perhaps it was best that she introduced herself.
