    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Goodness, he startled her. She wasn't expecting that at all, the nip on her rump and the shoving. Well, it was one way to find a home and suppose she hadn't specified how exactly she was going to get one. Ohio wasn't one to fight either, instead she jumped a little in shock, swinging her head around to look at the man. She wanted to see just who exactly had laid claim on her flashy rear-end and was now urging her to go somewhere.

She was suprised by what she found there too, a black and brown coat all spotty and fancy. Maybe that is why he liked her so much, they went together well in the sense of coat patterns she supposed.

A small half-hearted smile is given to the bay stallion that just stands there gawking, "Bye then," she says and begins to move forward. Nudge, nudge, push, push yes of course big guy here we go. "Yes, all right I'm going. Show the way then," she calls to him and then gives a whicker in the direction of her Mother but it is no doubt lost on the cold air the sweeps through the place. He leads she follows, just like a good herd mare should or so she's heard. Finally stopping when he does at lovely little spot where she can smell other ladies and him too, his scent clings heavily to the surroundings.

"Is this it then, my new home?" she asks with a smile, not at all disappointed with where they ended their walk.

She saw the mare and slowly walked towards her, walking with a limp. This foal was heavy, she didn't know why.She didn't want to have the foal but she knew she would be proud of the filly. Her sister joined her Pot Of Custard ,she was curious about anything.

The green eyes of the painted woman find another new face within the Ridge. A smile tugs at her lips as she approaches with a nod to skull. The other woman oddly hued mare was a pleasant sight in Cryil's eyes.

As she closes some space between, the fair painted mare moves passed with her sister, limping. Lobes flicker curiously as she halts her pace. The tall mare returns her gaze the other. "Hello there, welcome." Cryil must call with elevated tones as she does not want to crowd the new arrival but instead waits to allow the other to come closer to her, if she should like.

"Yes," he says when she asks if this is their final destination (he's ignored most of the other chatter), "Home."

Despite the winter (which he loathes) the herdland is still pleasant. The high cliffs keep out the worst of the snow and the wind, and the gemstones in the rock face seem to sparkle brighter when covered in ice. Grazing is not plentiful, but it is available, and the three mares in foal have continued to grow rounder.

One such mare approaches, and Njenyi gives a happy whicker in greeting to the cremello mare. He steps closer, brushing his muzzle along her crest affectionately before tapping (very gently) on her swelling barrel where his child grows. He repeats the motion with the palomino, greeting her with affection before turning to Cyril.

The tobiano mare he greets with less overtly saccharine affection, tugging playfully at her black and white mane before repeating the gentle caress of her swelling belly. This, Njenyi knows, is the life he had always wanted. These mares might not be the black and white herd he had envisioned, but they are his.

He steps away again, standing beside the black and brown mare while glancing to the three mares who had come to greet her. He'd introduce her, but he doesn't know her name. Instead he points to the other mares with his dark muzzle, naming each one in turn. "Custard, Cream, Cryil"

Yes his answers are short and sweet and she gives a dainty smile in return. He seemed kind enough, strong, silent but kind. She was still trying to feel him out, not knowing what to truly make of him but first impressions were not terrible and so she settled into accepting that.

Not long after they arrive others start to approach, two pale colored women both round with child are first. They greet her warmly and she watches how one limps from the weight of her impending offspring and gives an expression of comfort to the woman. It must be a terribly heavy burden that, her Mother had many children yet perhaps with having so many one learned to bare the weight easier. Maybe she should have asked her Dam for pointers on child rearing before she ran off to join a new home. She didn’t doubt her new suitor would want a foal of their own before long and she never considered being ready before.

Thoughts of family and child bearing soon flee her mind as yet another mare comes forth. She is painted in splashes of white and brown and Ohio perks at the flashy colors. It reminded her of her Mother, except this woman had no wings, not that that was a bad thing- Ohio had no fancy wings either.

Each one receives a knowing touch, a familiarity already existing between the four and for a moment she feels wholly awkward in their presence. He indicates their company, Custard, Cream, Cryil and her chocolate eyes follow each point of his maw to the owner of the name. “Oh, right. Nice to meet you all. I’m Ohio.” The words are bright if not a bit shy and her tail swings against her hocks as she turns to look at their leader. “And what should I call you then?” she wonders, realizing she didn’t even know his name.

She collapsed on the floor, not the first time. She remembered her mum and how she carried her siblings. She didn't give up on us and she knew she wouldn't give up on her foals. She couldn't really picture her mum or dad anymore, she got separated from her when young but met up with Custard and Willoway Free Spirit and they got captured and brought here."I am not from around here,I was born outside Bequanna."she gave a yawn and started falling asleep till she felt a kick from the little foal.

Custard walked forward, her belly wasn't as big as her sister's or Cyril's.She started grazing next to her sister. She sniffed her stomach and sort of felt a foal,it was a large foal and she knew it would come early.

Njenyi is not an especially complex creature. He is driven almost solely by his animal nature and his testosterone; anything that imitates empathy or more involved thought is more than likely a accident. He knows nothing of kingdoms or complex politics; he thinks only of his herd, of his mares and his children, and how to best keep them safe and growing in number.

He notices Ohio perk up at Cryil approach, and wonders if perhaps they will be friends. Is is good for a mare to have friends, he knows, it makes them happy, and happy mares are easy-to-keep mares. The black and brown mare greets the others, and then asks his own name.

"Njenyi." He replies, and then falls silent.

When Cream collapses he steps forward, clearly concerned. she seems ready to fall asleep though, so he steps back, watching as Custard steps up beside her sister. The two of them seem to have some sort of unspoken language - Njenyi can appreciate that even if he can't understand it. They'll probably help each other raise their foals, he knows; that will be good for the children.

Cream tried to sniff her sister back and say "I am ok,thanks." She hoped her sister felt her sniff. The kicks were getting more frequent and longer. She laid back down and she wanted to go back to sleep, her eye started closing and she fell asleep in a deep sleep.
