    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Despoine
The golden girl had had her entire world shattered in one catastrophic event.

The Valley was no more and her family had been scattered to the winds. Luckily, she had stumbled upon familiar faces flocking together amongst the chaos and confusion. But they too soon parted their own separate ways and Despoine was left to make an impactive life decision. The only members that she had truly recognized had been the guardian and the queen. Her parents were nowhere to be found and she had never been truly on her own.

And so the yearling had clumsily followed after Eight’s trail.

Surely, wherever the guardian declared to be home would be a good choice for her echo.

The heavy fog is reminiscent of her beloved birthplace, but yet the heavy and hot humidity in the air wasn’t familiar to her at all. A volcanic cliff rose overhead in the distance, but she did not realize the possible disaster such a landform could set off. She’d never once ventured outside the Valley, this new world was disconcerting for one who’s only adventures had been wandering away from Momma and Daddy while their watchful gazes turned elsewhere.

She had picked enough of kingdom politics off of her reserved mother to know not to venture to deeply into another’s land. Instead, the golden girl kicked her heels just inside the border with watchful, hopeful amber eyes on the horizon.

you won’t see me fall apart
They are not so different, these two. Despite the years that span between them, Thorunn finds herself in a similar situation (unknown to her. She can block mind reading, she cannot read minds)
She only knew the Valley - now it is gone.
She only knew the Valley - and they fractured. Split. Broke into pieces.
So she followed what she knew - Eight. The great magician. The sentimental eye to her fathers cool one. While Covet loathed magic he did not hate Eight for his skills, which was unique. Thorunn felt almost a fatherly closeness to the old stallion as Beqanna leapt and plunged through its changes. She followed him blindly, and ended up at the base of a volcano.
Did any of them know what could happen if it went off?
She spies the foal just within the borders, doing her aimless wandering. She is without purpose these days and the endless wandering calms her mind. Perhaps the change would bring about prosperity, but Thorunn felt lost. What was worse is she had no anchor to keep her grounded.
"Hello," she says, approaching the foal with her unscarred side of her face first. She's learning, slowly, to live with it. It's not an easy task.
