    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

I'll come for you again, he'd said. And he did, just the day before. He'd told her of the playground, exactly where to find it, just the place for the little tyke to safely scamper off so mummy could have some time for herself. Some time alone with him. It'd been far too long. So damn long. Time to catch up in that very special way. More than just the warmth of his body wrapped around her every few nights or so, a wing naturally drawn over her and the little one. More than the comfort and sweet nuzzles that made her feel so safe and secure and cared for.

Now he waited for her, just at the edge. She was such a beauty, such a sweet little thing with that boy. Handsome mite too, he was. Spitting image of his mother.

He watched her come after settling her son with the other babes, and he slid to her side to walk her through the field and to the forest. Nice and private there. She always seemed more comfortable beneath those dancing rays of sun or moonlight, and he rather liked it best himself. To anyone else, she looked like she was alone. But he was there, as he so often was. A steady but unseen figure haunting her side, their skin brushing every so often with their steps. Guarding her, in his way.

When they reached the line of the forest, he guided her in. The sunlight filtered and dimmed through the leaves overhead, danced and lit over that toasty-gold coat of hers. He stopped and wrapped around her, brushed his body along hers and around as he dragged his mouth down her spine. Mmm, he hummed in satisfaction, finally alone with his li'l dove like he'd been aching for. How long had it been, now? Far too long. I missed this, he crooned quietly, lining his lips along the curve of her shoulder and up, giving her a nice little tug on that dark hair.

He reached for her cheek next, kissing lightly, dropping the mask of invisibility from his face as he so rarely did. Only when she really needed it; only if things got too rough for her and she needed to see she was not alone. He was there. Maybe he always would be, in some way. Didn't really like to think of it though. Today though, he just felt like doing it. And he always did whatever he wanted.

He nipped just beside her jaw, breathed her in.
Did you miss this too, he whispered.
