    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

let that lonely feeling wash away; maybe there's a reason to believe you'll be okay
They’d dropped her off at home – Nerine, home, not the Icicle Isle where much of the Kingdom is headed – because the rumors about the safety of Icicle Isle aren’t great. Blue had insisted that she could help with whatever was going on on the island, making the shallow water under her hooves start to bubble and froth for illustration purposes, but neither had accepted this perfectly logical argument, so here the filly is, dancing up and down the shores of Nerine fighting invisible sea monsters with jets of water shooting around her.

A mistimed stream hits her square in the side, wiping her feet out from under her, and she tumbles into the shallow surf before rolling upright with a giggle and leaping from surf to tidepool with a snort, clearly slaying whatever enemy was in the tidepool. This would be more fun with one of her siblings, but despite Brennen delivering Qaen and Maertin to Nerine as well, she hasn’t been able to find the boys. She has a sneaking suspicious that they didn’t stay put in Nerine as they were told, but she doesn’t have the first idea where to start looking for them, so playing by herself is the current top choice.

@[Qaen] maybe? but open to anyone :3

    QAEN

Qaen has been in Nerine since his father brought him here, but he wasn’t happy about it at first. He missed home of course, but if they were going to have to move somewhere why did it have to be another place with some much water? Sure no one else is family was complaining about that, as far as he knew. Qaen was probably the only one who would rather be anywhere but ocean side.

This beach is grey and depressing, and in winter it is much colder than their old home. Good thing for his winter woolies. It is neat to have a new place to explore, and and he’s been looking around the mouths of some interesting caves today, but he hasn’t gone in anywhere yet.

He is unsurprised when he spots his sister playing in the tide pools, but he brightens all the same and trots away from the cliffs and out among the worn rocks where she is playing. “Blue!” He calls and bounds into the pool where she is playing. Greeting her with a bump of his little muzzle on her black cheek. This shallow pool full of interesting things doesn’t make him nervous, and the crashing waves seem to be keeping away for now. So he stamps one foot and then the other, splashing cold water up between them. “What are you playing?”

Splashing water is loud, and she’s so engrossed in her own game that she doesn’t hear even the clatter of hooves on Nerine’s occasionally rocky shores. She does hear her own name called and lifts her dark muzzle, and her eyes light up with excitement at the familiar face. “Qaen!” she calls back, feet going still momentarily, even as the jets of water behind her bounce every higher, fueled by her excitement. “Hi!” she giggles, too, as the water he stomps up splashes against her slim legs, and the rippling water distorts the brightly colored creatures in the puddle.

At his question, she leans in close, conspiratorially. “I was fighting seamonsters,” she confides in her brother, amber eyes sparkling in shared joy. “I beat the little one, but it’s big ugly uncle came to avenge him. Hey, do you want to help me? The water jets are the sea monster’s icky slime breath, so don’t get hit!” Blue leaps away from Qaen, leaping wildly over a low spurt of water and ducking under another as she goes scrambling into a different tidepool. “But don’t step on the starfish or the crabs! They’re good guys!”

As if to illustrate her point, she lowers her nose momentarily to snort at her own reflection, but when she clambers away, she’s careful not to step on a cluster of red and gold starfish clinging to the shallow side of her tidepool. Sitting nearly on her haunches she spins around to kick out at something only she can see, and takes off for the next tidepool.

    QAEN

Qaen takes a look into the tide pool, at the rough spikey skinned starfish, at clusterest muscles, and tiny claw waving crabs. Qaen would have to explore the tide pools later, his rambunctious sister is not going to stop her game and gape at tiny creatures with him and he is not about to spoil a game which is clearly going to be made better with two players. So he springs over the pool, and bounds after the roan girl. At the other pool he whirls and bucks, kicking out at the air and leaping away as an incoming wave sends up a jet of cold white water. Near the edge of the tidepool.

He backs up so that he is beside Blue and facing opposite her so that they may defend all sides. “Do you see that?! Another one is coming!” The boy shouts, rising up on his hind legs and lashing out like a boxer as an imaginary sea serpent rears back to attack them. Distracted this way, Qaen does no have time to dash away as a rogue waves slams into the rocks near them. Qaen, closer to the water, will bear the brunt of the impact but with a shout, and a flash of light that is even bright under the overcast glare the water only sprays down around them like cold glitter.

Qaen blinks. That is only the second time that has happened. The first time, when he’d fallen in the river it had shocked him but not been of any use. This time the flash of light means that the wave did not knock the wind out of him and bowl him over into Blue. He shakes water out of his short mane and whirls to help Blue attack the big ugly avenging uncle.

Qaen is in serious contention for the position as Blue’s ‘favorite brother’. Of course she has quite a few brothers and the role of her favorite is a constantly shifting and evolving thing, but if there’s one thing she still loves, even at a year old, it’s her games of pretend. And even though she knows Qaen would probably rather be doing something else, he joins into her game without hesitation.

“Hold it off!” she yells in excitement and yet concentrates on vanquishing her own foe, but the feel of the water in her mind warns her of an incoming wave. She turns to warn Qaen, knowing he doesn’t have the same affinity for water as herself, but she’s a moment too late. The wave is towering, ready to crash down, and she has a heartbeat of panic thinking it will engulf Qaen, and drag him under the surface (father AND mother have warned her away from playing in the dangerous surf in this weather, but she rarely listens) but to her astonishment, the wave breaks around her spotted sibling with a bright flash.

She stares, blinks, and any assistance she might have been giving the waves through her own excitement ceases. “How’d you do that?” she asks, darting towards him, eyes bright with curiosity. Blue’s forgotten all about make-believe seamonsters, because now Qaen is more interesting.

@[Qaen] I'm sorry this took so long TT_TT
