    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    Ilma
And there's a lesson waiting to be learned
the firestarters always get the burns
and the good guys never get the girl

He might like meeting Clayton, she thinks; that boy is a gentle soul, and the palomino reminds her of him - and perhaps Kreed, too, but she's not sure how long Solace will keep her friend's daughter around (Ilma isn't sure why the queen had agreed to it, but it wasn't Ilma's job to question that).

The young colt seems to feel safe with her instantly - so much so that he already tries to stand (she's not quite sure how old he is, but he's not quite smooth with the movement), and buries himself into her small chest. She chuckles softly and realigns his forelock. "Finch," she repeats, that's a pretty name, "My name is Ilma. Yes, I am a momma, and if you want to, I'll be your momma too."

She looks into his eyes - blue and bright. She smiles. He might not be hers, he might not be her would-be-lover's, but she can easily pretend. Almost too easily, perhaps but, she couldn't quite care. His own mother would or could not raise him, well, then she would, instead. "Are you ready to travel, Finch?" she asks him. He looks healthy, but she's not sure how much he's slept yet, and it certainly wouldn't do to push him beyond his limits already.

and shooting stars cannot fix the world

Any fool knows men and women think differently at times, but the biggest difference is this: men forget, but never forgive; women forgive, but never forget.
