    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    She's got the devil's eyes

Heartfire has never been a woman especially given to violence. Were she aware of Lepis’ thoughts on the matter, she would be inclined to agree that she is not one to spill unnecessary blood. The mistake however, lies in the belief that of the losses that might accrue, none of them would likely be life. Heartfire may not be an indiscriminate murderer, but she has little compunction in performing the act if she finds it necessary.

It does beg the question, however, if Wolfbane had shared the tale of how he’d come to defeat his own grandfather and consume his powers. Or had he so easily forgotten the image of his own grandmother standing, furious and blood-soaked, over the mangled corpse of his grandfather?

At this moment in time though, that reality is neither here nor there. Heartfire does not move towards the border with thoughts of murder on her mind. While it certainly would not be above her, she would never do such a thing without very good reason. Wolfbane is, after all, still her grandson. And that alone had afforded Lepis what leniency she has to give, limited as it may be.

She must admit she is rather surprised to find Lepis on her border though, with a call for conference upon her lips. She had thought their last meeting had made clear her disinclination to grant a request for secession or greater power. While she doesn’t doubt Lepis and Castile believe they have her pinned down, she had expected them to give the matter a little greater thought. After all, the scope of her reach is nothing to be dismissed. Unless, of course, they were choosing to blind themselves to it.

In any case, she highly doubts the woman is here to wave a white flag, so the visit is a rather curious one.

Her dark features are still and unreadable as she approaches the golden mare, blue eyes sharp and glittering as they slash across her lovely features. In contrast, Heartfire is rather plain. Almost unassumingly so. “Lepis,” she greets, her voice low and surprisingly pleasant. “Have you re-thought your position then, and come to retract your threat?”

and they'll cut you like a weapon
