    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

He doesn't just fly, he soars. Letting the strength of his wings and his trust in them carry him along the gusts of winds across the midday sky. Straight toward home. The ocean air fills his lungs, refreshing as well as soothing, mixing well with the warmth of springtime. It's been too long since he was home, so long that he wonders if it can even be called such. Though he doesn't honestly believe anyone could take his roots away from him. His mother had birthed him here, and when he'd lost her, he'd been taken in and brought up by another group. Learned to be a part of a family, even if it was quite admittedly a strange dynamic. He'd learned to fly here, how to be independent and to stand for what he believes in. Everything he is and was is in Ischia. And so it is here that he returns.

The young, red-gold and violet stallion circles over the island first, knowing full well his family had been displaced from it for a long while. Golden brown eyes scan over its terrain, relieved to see the island itself is as he remembers, although its inhabitants have changed. He can't help but wonder who rules here now, and how accepting they would be of him. It was his experience that most leaders don't turn away an addition to their numbers, so long as it carries no threat, but one could never be certain. Badden breathes deep as he makes his descent toward land, making no attempt to veil his arrival. A snort resounds from him, as the pumping of his wings just before his hooves touch the ground stirs the sand up into his nose. It brings to mind a time when he and Kharon sped across these very beaches together, quite a bit younger then, which causes an absent smile to touch his lips. Good to be home, even if there was uncertainty of his reception with the ones who reside here now. His gaze lifts to scan around him, settling his gold and violet wings at his sides, broad neck arched as he waits to be approached by someone likely in charge.

Even though it has been several weeks since her father has handed the island over to her, Larke still does not feel much of a ruler. There is nothing within her that beats in time with the need for power. She does not hunger for it or dream of it and often finds herself wondering how she has even ended up in this situation in the first place. Still, her quiet heart has learned to love the island for all of its wild beauty.

There is so much of its tropical nature that remind hers of home, but it is still entirely new to her.

She finds herself walking the beaches at night, enamored with the fluorescent blue.

She finds herself learning the paths that cut through the thicker vegetation during the day.

Today though, she is near the beach when she sees the young stallion touch down on the sand. Interested, she pauses, angling her find head and studying him with clear, sage green eyes. Flowers blossom down her neck and along the curved ridge of her neck, and she stands like that for a moment—still and quiet.

Then, she remembers that there is no one who is going to greet him beside her. She is the leader now, and she shakes her head as if unable to believe it. Smiling though, she moves forward from the shadows of the trees and the trunks, her face a study of curves. “Hello there,” she smiles lightly, walking closer until she is just a few feet away. She feels the wind pull her forelock away from her horn and she dips her head.

“My name is Larke,” another smile as she tilts her head. “What brings you to Ischia today?”

this is not the place that I was born in
but it doesn't mean it's not the place where I belong
