    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

every pearl is a lynx, is a girl
sweet like harmony made into flesh

For an actual century, Sno has lurked the hills, valleys, mountains, caves, riversides, - all of it. Every inch of what Beqanna was back in her young days, until now. Quietly, she’s lingered, never making much of a big deal of herself. She made some friends here and there, took a few lovers along the way – mothering three children who are long dead now. Her heart has seen many woes, and many blessings. There are no scars on her skin (except the one), but there is a plethora of them stretched across her soul like a map of her life.

The Field – she flies upon it with a wide, happy grin. What a place. She makes a few circles and lands on a small crest in the land. The sun is rising and the fog is clearing away from the grassy hillsides. She knows there are plenty of predators here, and she intends to let one find her. It’s been 50 or so years since she’s been here, in this position, looking to be snagged from the net like a salmon.

What was Beqanna’s magical folk up to, anyhow? Who was on top? Anyone burning the forests and overtaking thrones? Or was it quiet? Lately she has not paid much attention to the politics – for what, probably, the last 100 years…anyway…ha! She knows much of the land is different, but how about the citizens?

She intends to test the waters.

    Warlight

Soul as sweet as blood red jam

Warlight had come into being not so long ago in the grand scheme of things. She had lived for six years, and been dead of one, and still that had been enough time to see the world torn apart and put back together again. It had been enough time to produce a few children and fight enough battles that eventually she lost one.

She measured time in seasons, not years or decades, and she would never comprehend exactly how long a century could feel. She wouldn't get the chance, but it wasn't a chance she particularly wanted.

Warlight didn't mean to go recruiting on this foggy morning, but when she finds herself passing through the field on her way back to Tephra, Will can't help but notice the pale pegasus. Deciding it was time for a break in her journey anyway, she moves to join the stranger on the hill.

The antlered mare nickers a greeting as she approaches, before halting a respectful distance from the other. She could graze elsewhere if her company was not wanted, but she wouldn't mind making the journey home a little more interesting with a companion.

"What sort of searching are you doing today," she begins, her tone easy, conversational and twinged with the smoke of her home. "Looking for horses to take home or place to call your own?"

Sno looked over her shoulder at the gentle warble of a nicker and the patter of footfall coming up the shallow hillside. She smiles, a greeting warmly reserved for those who approach in peace, which this particular mare seems to be doing. Snowphish ruffled her speckled wings and nickers in return, flipping both of her ears upright to hear the mare.

Hello,” she nods, allowing space for the antlered woman to speak. “Oh,” she responds with a porcelain chime in her soft voice, letting a giggling ride on an exhale. “Well, truthfully, all sorts of searching ̶ but i suppose we can go with searching for a home.” she is still smiling, letting her eyes fall to the hills rolling on to the rocky horizon. “I am Snowphish, call me Sno, certainly a little easier than the whole thing.” she laughs with another exhale, content to stand with the other mare on the hill for the moment.

The stranger receives her warmly, welcoming her to her little piece of the field with a smile and curious, dark blue eyes.

"My name's Warlight, but I go by Will," she responds as she moves to close the polite distance she had left between them until she was acknowledged. "Similar situation," she adds, with an under-the-breath chuckle.

She nods as the mare replies in turn, a cheeky smile pulling at the corners of her sunburnt lips. "So we are not rivals, for today." Although Warlight had no intention of recruiting when she had woken up about an hour before (after having accidentally teleported herself to the southern border of Pangea in her sleep - a terrible side effect of her most interesting quality)  she often turned normal activities into competitions, which always made them much more enjoyable. But it looked like today she had no one to compete against but herself, which surprisingly doesn't disappoint her in the least.

"Is this your first time in the field?" Sno didn't smell like she came for some far off land, not like Kagerus and Solace had when they had just returned, but there was something about her Will couldn't quite pin down, and she finds her curiosity growing.
