    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    - THE TIDE IS HIGH, IT'S SINK OR SWIM -

Every evening and every morning for weeks after the event, Aquaria had found herself at the mouth of the cavern Ivar was entombed in. It was compulsive, the need to reassure herself that he was indeed still there, that he wouldn't come after her and her family again. Her waking nightmare.

Never did she speak during this ritual. Her visits were never long enough to condone conversation, anyway. Just enough to reassure herself, and to pay penance to the little girl still lost at sea.

It was on her way back from this morning's check that she took an unexpected detour. Typically her path would take her on the circuitous route of patrol she'd adopted when she'd become Eva's advisor, the long path taking her through beaches and thickets before taking her home again. Today though, Kaimana's loss stung sharply. Between that, the twin she did have, and the turbulent waters that was the rest of her family currently, the seamare found the thought of home painful. So she turned her nose North instead, and swam the short distance between isles until Brennen's home rose beneath her feet.

It was the same foliage, the same humming life as the mother island, but the air was thickened with scents she only vaguely recognized. Most of them male. Subconscious fear made her jaw tight in recognition. Still, she strode on, until her gleaming pale body stood in the shade of a beachside tree. This was, technically, still her land. But tenants had the right to their privacy, when they weren't Ivar, and she could wait to be found.
