    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

a little white light in a
    sea gone black

Oceane has always been skeptical in the face of higher powers. She has seen what that power can do, and it's not always good. And though she would prefer to stay away from the Mountain that she's heard others in Beqanna speak of, it has come time for her to accept that she is not able to help Loess in its recovery on her own. Perhaps a stronger hand will be able to help her in her endeavors to heal the wounded kingdom.

She flies as high as she can aside the Mountain until alighting upon a small plateau; pieces of shale skitter away beneath her turquoise hooves but otherwise the footing is safe. She ventures further, feathered wings pulled tight against her opalescent body in hopes to warm herself in the crisp mountain air. Meltwater and mud slip by her hooves as she continues higher and she silently curses the early weeks of spring.

Upon reaching the peak, Oceane gazes at the view it affords her. She's winded, lungs heaving, and though she feels rather foolish she speaks her wishes into the air before hoping, with the highest of hopes, for an answer:

“Five times in just as many years, Loess has been targeted by Pangea. Whether it be our residents or our land itself, the foothills haven't been afforded enough time to heal and to grow. Revenge isn't an option when all of our energy is exhausted on survival. Please, help us find a way to regrow.”

She pauses to keep her voice from pleading and then adds:

“Help me help Loess and those who call it home.”

Oceane is asking for a way to protect Loess.
i must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
and all i ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by

Though it was thier icey sibling who took the most active role, no spirit in the Mountain is unaware of the changes. The fey it the most strongly, and this fairy is no exception. Magic stirs.

Small, brown and strongly ratlike in appearence, it appears in the rocks and climbs until it is at eye-level with the weary-eyed mare. It tilts its head this way, then that, peering up curiously.

They squabble like children, down there in the mortal world, it seems. This one wants defense, but who is to say the fairies have not already given their boon to the ones who target the horses from the place they call Loess?

They haven't, but can the mortals really know?

"I'm not quite sure how this will work..." the rattish fey begins, standing up on its hind legs, front hoofpaws folded in contemplation. "But let's try..."

A spound like a gong shakes the air around them, deep and long but without echo. Small fey, big magic, the little brown creature thinks with what might be a pleased smile. Oceane is still there, but without visible form, and even her scent and sound of movements have been softened to a sub-equine level.

"Now you have a chance to practice the Pangean tactics. See if they are to your tastes, and if not, return to us with what you'd prefer."

@[Oceane] has rolled a 4 and will receive a quest. Oceane will only be able to post as invisible until she completes a steal or chalkenge (does not have to win/be successful). Any posts started prior to this can be completed as visible. Any new threads must be in invisible form until this quest has been turned in or forfeited. The invisiblity will fade in two RL weeks if no progress has been made on the quest.

She is exhausted by the time she summits the Mountain. And beneath that exhaustion simmers anger and malaise, but at the thought of Fiorina she remembers to rein in the negativity she feels in the face of the Fairies.

She places her intangible frame on the same spot she'd stood upon her first visit to the peaks, amber eyes seeking out the rat-like creature that had greeted her then. “I did what you asked,” she calls into the emptiness before her. She shifts her weight and looks down at the place where her legs could be, hoping on top of hope that the fairy will decide not to leave her like this permanently.

And I hated it, she wants to say, but instead spies quietly before continuing. “The residents of Loess have a prerogative to live peacefully and without fear. Stealing from another kingdom welcomes additional danger and the opportunity for retaliation. I just want them to be safe.”

Unsure of what else the fairies require of her, the Loessian Queen remains after she has finished speaking. Realizing that she should have asked Fiorina how, exactly, to request the termination of her invisibility, Oceane chews at the inside of her cheek with uncertainty.

The fey that rises to greet her is tall and thin, with a swan’s head atop the pale body of a six-legged doe. It tilts its head as she speaks, and three fist-sized ruby eyes glitter with what might be curiosity.

“You come alone.” it says when she has fallen silent, and only the wind has been between them for an overlong time. “You come alone and so you alone will be your people’s safety. So long as you remain loyal to your home, we will aid you in its protection.” The trio of jewel-like eyes turn back toward Loess with a tilt of the fairy’s swan neck, and much farther than the equine eye might ever see, a dozing koala near a Loessian hot spring blinks open a pair of unnaturally glittering eyes, and then lazily closes them and drifts to sleep once more.

“This mark will fade in two winter’s time, or on the day you fail to uphold your own share of the responsibility of protecting your home. When it does, so too does our aid.” There is no emotion in the red eyes when the fairy gestures to the mark across her left shoulder. There is a soft gust of warm air, and then the fairy is gone.

Oceane has the opportunity to request one extra roll in a steal for Loess so long as she does not become inactive. This applies only if all other rules of the steal have ben met (IC post, replying within time limit, etc), and will end in two BQ years, when she leaves Loess, and or when she becomes inactive, whichever happens first. Please link to this post when replying to steals this applies to. Oceane has a ruby red marking of your choosing on her left side that will eventually fade.
