    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

a little white light in a
    sea gone black

The fairy she'd encountered atop the Mountain had not coincided with Oceane's imaginings of the Beqannan fairies at all ─ it had presented itself as small and rattish, though she does consider that its appearance had likely been presented as such by choice. A far cry from the arithmancers of Nau-Aib, who wore their omnipotent sorcery like gilded robes and heavy crowns.

Yet the small creature had been mighty, and not thirty minutes after her arduous trek to the Mountain's peak was Oceane invisible at the hands of the fairy's magic. Invisible, both visually and olfactory, to try her hand at Pangea's techniques. The imperceptible mare had retreated from the peak feeling particularly glum.

The task presented to her, and the decision that ensued, have proven difficult. There are too many potential alliances she has yet to secure for Loess ─ she thinks of Aquaria, Leilan, and Gale, knowing fully well that she cannot, and will not, target any of the territories associated with them and their kingdoms. Aside from her own, that leaves one potential target, and that realization has left a perpetual grimace on the mare’s invisible face.

From the Mountain, she had flown directly to Hyaline and landed almost inaudibly by the crystalline lake at its center. Others meandered in the distance, though without a visual form, Oceane had gone on unnoticed. For a few days she wandered the wisteria and red maple, daring to venture close enough to hear conversations but not close enough to potentially alert the residents to her indiscernible presence.

Though she made Hyaline her temporary home for a few days, it was within the first that Oceane decided who she was going to attempt to pilfer for Loess. And despite the way her conscience jerked against the actions she was preparing to take, she wasn’t willing to fail Loess again. She had sought help from the fairies for a reason, and now was time to follow through.

Her predicament reminds her of Fiorina, and a small smile of relief pulls at the woman’s invisible lips. Perhaps by the time they cross paths next, the xenomorph woman will have regained her sight, and that will settle the nagging worry in Oceane’s head that she will forever remain unseen.

She follows her quarry for two full days, quietly in wait for an optimal time to scurry her over Hyaline’s western border. When, finally, dusk gives way to twilight and Breach is patrolling the western edge of her kingdom, Oceane assumes leadership of the situation ─

“Breach,” she whispers quietly, the sound of her disembodied voice filling the space between them as she attempts to coax the metallic mare closer to her voice and across the threshold from Hyaline to Loess, “Is that you, Breach?”

Oceane is invisible until she completes her current quest.

Patrols were, for the most part, a game for Mazikeen. Though she did sometimes use them to spend a little more time keeping an eye on the lake - wondering if Sabal had any other fishy relatives stashed away there - Mazikeen also kept her eyes on the borders around Hyaline as a way to practice her shifting. And also in the hopes that she would get to tell someone off if they tried to join the pack but didn’t meet the requirements.

She just wanted to do it once - see if it was fun at all. Not that she had anything against those that could not shift, but they had plenty of other places to choose to live and she was happy to do her part to keep Sochi’s dream alive. It was for the good of the pack and maybe the would-be-newcomer would get so disgruntled that they'd have to fight!

As twilight descends, Mazikeen finds herself adopting a familiar form rather than something new and as a white wolf with black paws she is not so much “patrolling” as she is looking for Breach or Daye. And though she does find Breach, her large ears twitch at the sound of a quiet voice. Immediately alert, orange eyes scan the darkness but cannot discover the speaker. A deep inhale brings the scent of another horse, a stranger, and the fur on Mazikeen’s back begins to bristle.

If this is a friend, why would they hide?

Wanting to be prepared for anything (and also, just a little, wanting to intimidate and show off) Mazikeen's wolf form shifts into that of a large white bear with burning eyes that focus on where she thinks the voice is coming from. “You better back off or you’ll get more than you bargained for.” Her lips curl back from her teeth as a deep growl chases the threat out of the bear's throat.

    BREACH

I'd bare you my heart, if I knew that it still was there
I'm too nervous to look, too afraid to close the book

She is wandering the border when she feels the distinct sensation of being watched.

It’s a prickling on the back of her spine. The raising of hairs. She feels it but does her best to ignore it, turning her gaze to and fro as she hunts but never able to pick up the sight of that which she smells. Her nose twitches slightly in this wolfish form and she growls low in her throat, irritated more than anything.

When she hears the disembodied voice, she’s struck by a thought as she swivels.

With a fluid movement, she shifts into a serpent, her vision going infrared as she peers around the area. She catches sight of the source of the whisper, although she isn’t able to decipher features or anything beyond the mass of something warm. Hissing, she picks up the approaching wolf.

She shifts back into her previously wolfish form, her lips peeling back over her teeth as Maze shifts into the massive bear. It was good that it would be the pair of them then. “You’re wise to stay on that side of the border, stranger,” she growls between teeth, snapping her teeth and snarling. “If you’re not brave enough to show your face then you’re certainly not brave enough to be doing what you’re attempting.”

Breach has half a mind to let her.

Half a mind to let this stranger whisk her away across the border and end up with far more than she bargained with. She knows she could use a good excuse to unleash this pent up aggression.

so take all the wind from my lungs if you're out of air
just deliver me truth, deliver me you

    Oceane: 20

Due to tie, a reroll was done

    Mazikeen: 2
    Oceane: 10

Verdict: Breach is successfully stolen by Oceane for a timit limit of one season
