    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

(and it's harder than you think)
    telling dreams from one another

A clouded expression stormed across Nashua's face - an expression of unease - but Gale manages to dissipate it by the time that the brothers step from beenath the canopy of Silver Green's and into the sunlight. The answer that the brindled pegasus gives the striped one comforts Nash. The stormy emotions building in his copper chest are released with a sigh that the Hersir didn't even realize that he had been holding. No, says Gale in reply to his question. It didn't bother him that they were going to be shifters.

Nashua has talked to his blue sibling many times over the years. About Islandres, telling Gale of the North annd her tidings, about whatever current circumstances that surround Beqanna. But Nash has never openly asked about that blood tie they share. Like many of the Northerners, Nashua doesn't speak of Wolfbane. Better that such evil becomes forgotten, his silvered grandmother had once decreed to him and Yanhua, banishing the name forever from her line.

And yet by asking this question, it is a quiet admonition about the sire he shares with Gale (though Nash has come to suspect that who had fathered him had not been the same man as his brother's father). When Gale answers his question, there is a long silence that comes after. Like the shapeshifter stallion beside him, Nashua is prone to lose himself in thought. He doesn't immediately fill it because the striped pegasus has always been comfortable with Gale. Taking a few more steps ahead, Nash thinks about other troubles: how Yanhua has taken the death of their mother especially hard, that Bolder still struggles with control over his ever-changing coat, that Leilan has become increasingly distracted of late.

But then his brother smiles again and Nashua decides to save his problems for another day. They certainly didn't seem to be going anywhere. They would (most likely) still be there tomorrow and Gale was only here for today.

Eager to follow an already galloping Gale, Nash races after him with a bellow of laughter, determined to make the most of the moment they had been given.
