    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Ever since their return from Hyaline, all Bolder has asked is when they will return.

The striped adolescent reminds him almost every time that Nashua lands in Taiga. After he has met with Yanhua and made sure that Noel is alright, the young pegasus manages to find him. The questions at the beginning are always the same: How is the Isle? Have you heard from Grumpy Leilan? Is there anybody else out there that lives with you? and after Nash gives the same tired replies: Cold. No. Yes, a few mares seeking shelter.

Bolder has learned through his interrogations that there is a mare named Ciri who is the Thane and she keeps company with another mare and her daughter, possibly avoiding someone on the mainland. Bolder has also learned that no matter how many times he asks these questions, it never puts his father in a better mood for the ones that will come next. Remember that Maze said she would show me some more tricks? That we could meet the kelpie who lives in the lake? The answer that Nash gives is always the same; he simply doesn't have the time and with two other growing siblings and now an adopted one, a visit to Hyaline will have to wait.

The young horse is in his presence now, trying his patience as Bolder shifts enthusiastically from a kestrel to a swinging monkey before shifting back into a horse. "Gusts and gales," Nash says, "can you not pick a shape?" The older stallion murmurs harshly, with words sharp enough that he can see the way that they cut into his youngest son. Bolder peers over at his father with those unusual silver eyes and then says quietly, "sorry."

Nashua leaves the boy near the grove where Bravely and Saffron most often are. Noel should be returning soon, to wherever she had flown to this time. A neatly folded shape in the distance tells him that Benjamen is still resting. Good. A quick glance at Bolder is all that Nash can manage because the colt is already moving away from him, most likely searching for his brother and sister. There is a moment where he thinks about saying something, trying to explain that his multiple trips from the Isle to Taiga have left him weary and tired. That there has been no word of Leilan and where he has gone.

Sighing, he decides it best to just let the boy go.

There are still a few hours of daylight left and Nashua decides to make good use of them. The striped pegasus moves towards the part of Taiga where he knows that he can find his brother and the sight of the horned stallion is always a relief to Nash. Their meetings of late have been brief but he hopes to change that now and even if this conversation is only about their children or their home, the Freyr would be happy with that. Perhaps Yan might even have some insight on how to handle his growing divide with Bolder, something that Nash hadn't been able to breach with Elegance.

When he finally finds his twin, Nash glances at the lightly illuminated wings at Yan's sides and then inclines his head towards the coast. "Feel like finally testing those things out?"
