    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

The world has changed and shifted since she's been here. Her loved ones are no more and for those who are left they are far and in between, merely distant relatives and friends who have lingered within the enthralls of her tangled memories. She has lost all of her attachments, her heart no longer thrums from where she had began for she has returned to find her previous safe havens are no more. Loess has become mere flecks of dust within the wind beneath her wings, yet she still grasps onto those memories. The emotions of every single aching memory of her past washing over her. She carries them with her a constant ache of what was, and reminder of what will be when she returns to Beqanna.

The wind carries her navy tipped wings to a familiar place, a place where her and her sister once frolicked beside her father. She was wrapped in a safety net then, weaved by the familial bond of love and the uneasy protection of her royal ties. Yet now that is a loss, she has since then learned this world is hateful and dangerous, the scars adorning her body tell that tale, yet some how she still yearns to find the light among the darkness. And perhaps she'll find that here.

Her golden wings guide her into a flurry of autumn leaves, crunching beneath her weight as she wanders aimlessly, a sugar dusted smile lingers on her lips as she glimpses around curiously. Everything is new, she once could visit here and find several comrades within the mix of equine gathered, but now she feels like a stranger lost within the bustling of the unknown. She remembers this feeling, and welcomes it although weary of who she may encounter.

The young mare called Myrna does not often leave her home, but when she does it is only to go to the Meadow. She knows the Meadow, had learned it with her mother, and it feels nearly as comfortable and familiar to her as the fields of Hyaline. Here she does not feel the heart-in-throat tension of the unknown, here she can simply blend in.

She is doing just that today - blending in.

Rather than her natural form - eye-catchingly pale, magnificently horned, impossibly pretty - she is trying on the shapes of others she comes across. It is a complex trick, capturing not only each detail but also the differences in shape, but it allows her to practice a more intricate type of shapeshifting. She’s not very good at it yet, having only begun to try a few weeks ago, and only on her infrequent trips to the Meadow, so there is no small amount of frustration.

It is after one such frustration, a repeated failure to capture a precise shade of lavender in a stranger’s mane, that Myrna comes across the pegasus.

She does not recognize Heda, her great-grandmother, and there is no reason for Heda to know her. Myrna looks like her mother, and her father had looked like his father, and almost everything that Lepis might have passed to her are gone entirely. Instead, Myrna sees only a pretty dun mare, with navy markings and feathered wings not too different from those that Myrna often wears.

“Would you mind if I try to copy your appearance?” She asks, her blue-grey eyes hopeful.

The golden women allows her hazel eyes to wander, catching glimpses of familiarity drawn from her own memories. Her gaze fixes on a stream of water fed from the mountains, where she learned how to fly beside her obsidian father and inky sister. She remembers leaping over the stream and fluttering her petite wings, as her father, Ruan glinted with enthusiasm. The very feeling is warm, and she flutters her navy tipped wings at her sides in remembrance. She always wished she had brought Lepis here, it was a constant ache within her, something she had always regretted.

Yet that was then and this is now. Living in the past had drawn her to travel away from beqanna, she couldn't keep running away it was time for Heda to start living again.

She averts her gaze as a young pale mare greets her with a question, a perplexing one at that. She had seen the vast extents of magic within beqanna in her lifetime, but this world never ceases to surprise her. Mimicing any appearance what a peculiar little gift this was, and something she indeed needed to see.

"Why of course!" she expels, a gentle smile curling on her navy lips, her hazel eyes glinting with curiosity.
