    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

[open]  out in the dark, there burns a dream

don't waste your time always searching for those wasted years

Where he had once heard the music in her laugh, now he only hears the nails of discord screeching against the chalkboard of her rage. He knows he is treading dangerous waters, but still he persists out of a deeper desire to understand her motivations. He knows there are better ways to go about things, but he finds his own twisted gratification in the strong reactions she gives him. His eyes narrow even further as he opens his mouth to respond, but it snaps shut as she reveals her telekinetic ability.

The pebble strikes him squarely above his right eye with just enough force to split the skin. As the blood wicks its way into the yellowed hair of his forelock, a squeal of contempt bursts from his mouth and he rears back to strike out at the air, though he lacks true intent to cause harm to her. As both hooves slam back into the ground, he turns the undamaged side of his face toward her, the blue of his eye seeming to burn white with his own wrath.

And so, the invasion goes unnoticed, blanketed by the cover of his anger in the moment. Even if he had felt her magic’s touch, there is no way he could comprehend exactly the consequences it creates—he’s never met a creature like Margot (and likely never will again). Any words that had been on his lips are long forgotten as he studies her while she speaks, throwing threats again.

She professes intense love for her own family, states that love is the only thing that matters to her, and yet she wants to take his love for his family.. none of it adds up. He snorts bitterly, still unsure about.. well, everything. His curiosity wins out, so he takes a different tack without softening anything about his approach.

“What do you get out of it, anyway? You don’t know my family, so why do you want my love for them?”
