    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

    The Dark Light [Any]

On this warm spring day, Velk stands in the shadow cast by a tall conifer. He is avoiding the general population but, especially, those blood thirsty pesks. His sapphire hock-kisser flicks, periodically, across each flank. He is comfortable, for now, and wandering through his own musings. He considers how much he has changed since he ventured out on his own. See, when you are born a Prince, you tend to have more expectations and responsibility than the average kid. He never, once, behaved entitled. Solace taught him well, and he missed her dearly.

What he wouldn't give to be back in Hyaline. A soft smile tugs at the corners of his lips as he thinks back fondly on those days. He shakes away those thoughts as they are futile. Beqanna repossessed all of the lands he has ever known (Hyaline, Silver Cove, Loess and, to a much smaller degree, Sylva). As of late, the tovero has become his father. His thoughts venture back to his mother's words: "Castile is a drifter... was a regent of Loess once... but, just a little lost." Velk definitely drifts about. You can usually find him in the Meadow, like today but, occasionally, you may see him on the River's bank. And, without a permanent place to settle, the black and white paint feels lost, also.

He shrugs his shoulders and shifts his weight. Today is as good a day as any. With that, muscular haunches push sturdy legs into a confident stroll. He heads north. He can feel the air thin as he approaches the skirts of the Mountain. His footfalls take him along the winding waters and, over the rocky, hilly, terrain. His nares draw in the crisp Mountain air. Velk can feel an invigorating sensation as his lungs fill with the northern air. Surefooted hooves navigate the rocky knolls, which seem to be lead to more knolls. Blue gaze discerns the narrow paths worn down by previous travelers. He follows the trail until the stone hillsides part ways. This is his first glimpse of the crystal blue waters at the heart of the domain. Velk pauses here to take in the stunning view. For the first time in a very long time, the tovero feels serene and secure. The Dale, on the surface, seems to have a similar appeal, to Velk, as two very familiar places: Hyaline and Loess. Without further ado, the broody bronc moves deeper into the land.

The faint noise of hooves could be heard within the distance, coming up closer. There was just this unknown path, facing it. There was a blue lake that she happens to be intrigued by while taking another few steps to see herself in that clear lake. Who was she? Where was she? Where did she come from before?
Seeing every mark on herself, she stares for a few more seconds even. A little dragonfly flies over to her nose as it smacks her with its little wings which draws out a little neigh from her before she splashed into the water.
Startled, she shook her head a bit with her mane a little messy as it hung over her head with soaked fur and mane all over. Oddly, she was embarrassed by this since she was just startled by a little harmless creature.
She doesn’t even notice the stallion within the area and she tries to hurry out of the lake and shake off all the water that drenched her.

The tovero tunes into the symphony of this new land. His auditory sense picks up: the woosh of air beneath a startled hawk's wings; the hushed rustle of leaves in the breeze; and, the scurry of a small mammal through the underbrush. His tranquil walk is disturbed by an abrupt cry (identified as equine) and, a violent splash in the nearby blue waters. Four limbs cease motion and align in a casual stance. His blue gaze bright and alert as he attempts to focus in the direction of the sound that caught his attention. He steps off of the narrow path he has been following, and proceeds down the gentle trail that leads to the lake's edge.

Once close enough, the black and white marked male can discern the drenched form of a young mare. Her recent encounter with the lake makes her brown markings seem darker and, her pink skin show through the wet white fur. She stands shorter than himself and, slightly more refined. His sapphire gaze meets hers - a shade of ruby he has only seen in the wild poppies - and he offers an awkward smile. He hopes she does not feel uncomfortable, after all, accidents happen to every one. Velk chooses to stay where he is but, offers a gentle tone to break the growing tension in their silence. "Pardon me. I was passing by and heard a splash. Are you all right?" He waits for her to reply though, allows his gaze to watch the lake's waters calm down, rather than stare at the maiden.

She was a bit alarmed at first and completely blushed as she did not think a stallion was nearby. Poor baby, she really made a fool out of herself now. She could not help but stare back at his sapphire eyes which were far more different than hers. She was lost for a bit before he looked to the calm water.

    "Y-You didn't see anything, right?!"

She was very alarmed and still very much embarrassed by her lack of confidence in holding her ground with that little harmless creature. She was still near the lake before she slipped on a rock in the water fell back, and landed on her behind while getting soaked again by the water. Such a clumsy one she was. Great job.

She was completely still and faced down at the water with her eyes shut close as if waiting for him to leave such an awkward and clumsy mare.

"S-Sorry! Y-You had to meet such a clumsy mare!"

Velk cannot remark on her balance or, clumsiness. He, himself, is awkward and, beyond clumsy on his own four limbs. His sapphire gaze catches her blush before averts his eyes once again. Poor dear. She is already embarrassed. No need to make her feel worse. The black based tovero looks at a feathered creature nesting in the nearby tree. When the dame speaks, his right ear hones in on her every word. He continues to look away but, shakes his head to signal that, no, he had not seen what happened.

He considers moving forward to assist; however, he would likely trip over his own hooves and splash more water upon the lady. At least it is a warm day? Velk muses to himself. He hears another loud splash which forces him to return his gaze to Silysi. She is now immersed in the water, set on her rump, with her head down. She apologizes and, he cannot help but admit, "There is no need to apologize. I, myself, am quite clumsy. I would offer to help but, I am afraid I would only make matters worse."

He ponders for a moment. It is warm today. He can feel the humidity in each of his breaths. His pelt, only partly shed since winter, is slick to his form. Sweat is not collecting yet but, he feels uncomfortable. He decides the best thing he can do, is join her. Velk takes a few steps forwards before swinging his haunches to the left, closer to the water. He moves in reverse until he can feel the cool water encircling his hind pasterns. Once parallel to the mare and, standing in the cool blue lake, Velk permits his weight to sink onto his rump. This is an odd feeling, he thinks. He hopes the waves caused by his landing do not soak her more. Once seated next to her, he extends his whiskered muzzle to offer a gentle nudge of affection. "Now, if any one else comes along, we look as though we meant to do this." He offers a reassuring smile before lowering his lips to the liquid surface to take a small sip.

Oh my, more water had been splashed onto her but she was already holding her head down when he came upfront and honesty told her his same situations and such. It cheered her up a little bit even though it wasn’t much but still a lot.

It was then when she spotted him move back and enter into the water with her. Why did he do that? She as shy and quite surprised at all of this. This was a first to see someone actually come into the water with her. Who would want to join a clumsy mare? It would be like knocking two birds with one stone if that were the case here… or was it? She just could not help but notice how he can just join her, it made her simply just happy to know this though.

“Y-You… you are a rare one.”

She blushes as she said that, but offers a gently nudge at his cheek as he took that little sip from the water. Taking a little sip with him before she would then turn her attention back on him to ask.

“Where do you you come from? Do you have a herd?”
