    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

Predictably, the lioness and her companion find themselves drawn back to Pangea.

The last time the duo had been dragged from their slumber, it had been to be reunited with her younger brother, Darkling. The boy hadn’t been gifted with their parents’ shifting abilities, though darkness had clung to him like a cloak, even in the sunlight. Austra has another full sibling, she knows, but she has never sought him out. Family matters so much to her darling mother, but the only family member she has ever been close with is her twin.

And oh, it has been so long since she has seen her twin.

Ever the constant companion, Cybil brushes her shoulder along Austra’s as she senses the woman’s sorrow, but the emotion is brief, Within moments she moves along, her topaz eyes daggers as she stares at the tiger. She is not angry with the other feline, only annoyed; she doesn’t want to be pitied for missing Isilme. She is sure the other is fine, happy and content with the family she had cultivated over years.

With a knowing look, Cybil peels away from her side, padding off on her own as Austra moves deeper into Pangea. The tigress doesn’t blend with the sandy canyons and barren landscape the way the lioness’s tawny coat does, and Austra is nearly unnoticable as she traverses the kingdom both of her parents had ruled. She wonders if she would have returned to the Cove if it came back - Cybil loved it there, but Austra had always felt a bit out of place; here, she makes a ferocious predator.

It is only when the sun begins to fade that she slows, a familiar cave looming ahead of her. With a satisfied chuff she moves towards it, confident that her companion will find her in due time.

    Later, they’ll hunt.

    LITOTES

To be in Pangea once more, to walk its hallowed, crimson halls as he once did—Litotes cannot help but be exhilarated whenever his eyes alight on something old and something new. The old lichen draped cave he called his residence as King, the creek bed beneath a ledge where he found Kensa giving birth, the random and wondrous rock formations created when the earth spit Pangea back out. It’s not the kingdom it was when he ruled it, but Litotes intends to change that.

For now, though, Lie is mostly quiet. Lost in thoughts of times past and pressing present and certain futures. He’s in a contemplative mood; and perhaps that’s why he finds his body shifting down into his lion form. Sighing, the lion plops himself in a small bit of shade and places his massive head on his paws. Two golden eyes glitter and gaze from within the black shadows curling lovingly around his body. He is content, at least for the next ten minutes.

Soon the sun moves in such a way that it beats heavily down on the once-king. He chuffs to himself and stretches, instinctively heading in the direction of the moss-draped cave he used to call home. The sun is setting when Lie finally arrives. A familiar figure outlines on the horizon. A quick breathe tells him who awaits:

    “Austra!”

Lie jumps into a run and pounces on the lioness. He huffs out a hearty laugh as they roll and asks, “You’ve returned to Pangea! Where’s Cybil?”

and let the cool air in, feel the night slip in
as it softly glides across your back
and i hope you leave right before the sun comes up
so i can watch it alone
