The forest is dark, so dark, and eerie sounds come from every direction. The sun had yet to rise and the dawn isn’t able to lighten the forest, not even a little bit. The small green filly blends almost perfectly with the forest’s vegetation. It is the sounds of her movements, as she steps on dead tree branches or as she pushes through some bushes, and her light panting that gives her away. Umqra doesn’t remember how she had ended up in the forest. She remembers that she laid down to rest when the sun had disappeared behind the horizon, but everything between that and waking up in this forest is a black gap in her memories.
She calls out, to her mother most of all, but anybody would do right now. It’s shrill and high pitched, obviously voicing her distressed state. Umqra feels like she has been walking for hours, her legs numb and tired, but the panic and fear doesn’t allow her to lay down yet. Instead she stumbles on, trying to find her way through the forest, running away from the sudden and unfamiliar sounds. Every time she comes to a halt, holding her breath to listen carefully, there is something that scares her. The forest is slowly awaking and the darkness – that slowly gets chased away by the sunlight – is enough to scare the mantis green filly.
As the sun eventually rises and the forest isn’t as dark as before anymore – although the eerie feeling stays – she collapses. She is no longer able to keep herself up and although it goes right against her nature, Umqra is just not able to keep standing anymore. She simply is too tired. Her body is trembling, partially because of the fear, but also because of the cold that seeps into her body from the ground.
