    COTY

    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

All in all, he’s been rather pleased with his little apprentice’s efforts.

First the boy had destroyed Zayn’s mother, ridding Zayn of the biggest nuisance in his life, and effectively helping to jump start the war. And then, during the following battle, the boy had proven to be an incredible asset. Siberian had helped to protect Chamber children, had helped to defeat that bastard member of the Gates, and had helped to take out the ice manipulating member of the Dale. A job very well done.

Zayn just hopes the boy continues to the same standard.

He seeks out Siberian in the main part of the kingdom, nearby to the tree where they had first joined the battle. The boy (or bear) is nowhere in sight, so Zayn raises his voice to call out for him, then settles in to the shade of a tree close to the burning bush. He has no doubt that the boy will be along soon - he’s been rather more obedient as of late.

As he waits, he contemplates what his plans for the boy will be. The threat of war is fading away, but Siberian is now a perfect weapon, primed for battle and the kill. It would be a shame to let him go to waste.

The time of war was passing, and Siberian had mixed feelings about this fact.  He could still recall that feeling of excitement, when he and Zayn had joined the battle raging within the Chamber; the the way the adrenaline had surged through his body and made his blood sing as they worked to take out the weather-manipulator.  On the other hand, all of these horses from the other kingdoms, creating quite a din, driving away the Chamber's wildlife, trampling the grass (which had also become bloodsoaked in places, rather ruining the taste of said grass), not to mention the living trees, shadow creatures, and whatever else the assembled magicians had conjured up making things even more dangerous for horses on both sides.  Dangerous and noisy and chaotic.  The young stallion was glad to see the quiet return to the pine forests and the gathering areas, glad to be able to either graze or hunt without needing to worry about himself becoming prey.

Enjoying that feeling of relaxation, he is in his horse form today as he canters along and does a little bit of border patrol.  He was officially in the army caste now, and this had seemed like the thing to do accordingly.  Siberian rather likes the solitude of patrolling, but leaves it without a protest when his master's call reaches his ears.  The Budyonny makes his way to their unofficial meeting spot, black hide gleaming in the gentle autumn sunlight as he comes to a stop before the palomino sabino.  He's a little unsure as to why Zayn had summoned him, but assumes that he must have something planned.....he always seemed to.  He had always done such in the time that Siberian had known him, always been quick with making decisions on the fly.  The bearshifter tilts his head curiously now as he waits.  "Zayn? ", he says, turning the name itself in a query for information.

The boy doesn’t take long to arrive, much to Zayn’s surprise. Siberian’s rebellious days seem to be ending - likely because the boy is in too deep. He’s killed now, fought in the Chamber’s name. He can’t pretend to be an innocent bystander. And, there’s no where else for him to go.

He smiles as the boy approaches, noting the slight apprehension in the boy’s expression. Though he’s come willingly, he’s still concerned as to what Zayn will have planned for him next. Not to worry though, Zayn’s plans are not overly grand for the moment.

“Hello Siberian.” His smile widens, just a little. He can still remember how small and soft the boy had been when he’d first found him in the playground. Such a little, innocent thing. A far cry from the terrible beast that had protected the Chamber’s tree and children.

It would be a waste to let him languish now, but Zayn honestly has nothing planned. Not that he’ll let Siberian know that. Can’t let the little apprentice think that his master is running out of ideas. Not that he’ll be without plans for long. “I wanted to commend you on your actions during the battle.” Siberian hadn’t done much fighting per say, but his instincts had been good and he’d assisted his master and the other Chamberlings. “But you still have far to go. I want you to practice, improve your skills. You’ve become a member of the army, use it to your advantage. Mock with them, challenge outsiders.” He pauses, eying the boy. “Make yourself an asset to the kingdom.”
