    Assailant -- Year 226

    QOTY

"But the dream, the echo, slips from him as quickly as he had found it and as consciousness comes to him (a slap and not the gentle waves of oceanic tides), it dissolves entirely. His muscles relax as the cold claims him again, as the numbness sets in, and when his grey eyes open, there’s nothing but the faint after burn of a dream often trod and never remembered." --Brigade, written by Laura

the words she knows the tune she hums

She had remained distant from the herd since her stillborn last year, it was a disappointment to herself and Phaedrus. It was a rather quiet year, Josie was off making her own life and Zara recently began her diplomat duties again out and recruiting in the field. Phaedrus was rarely in the herd lands, and when he was it was hard to find time with him due to the large number of herd members. But she was never truly alone, after months of never feeling alone the mysterious creature appeared, her spirit animal. It was a Jet black wolf, by the name of Zaphod. He was always lurking around and was near when Zara needed him, and today was no different but he remained hidden in the woods.

Contractions began and the feeling was oh so familiar, she knew that she would birthing soon. It was nerve racking that until the foal is born she wont know if it is alive, she just wanted to be a mother again, to have a foal Phaedrus can be proud of. She walked around looking for a place to nestle into waiting for the contractions expand into unbearable pain. She slowly strolled around the Golden Plains hopeful to remain hidden from the others until she was able to deliver the foal.

It was almost mid day now and she finally settle on an open field, the trees were near by where she could tell Zaphod stayed, but was out of sight. She buckled her front legs, hind legs following, relaxing on a soft bed of grass beneath her. She grew very uncomfortable now and her body made it clear it was time to push, she pushed long and hard and the sun was starting to set when a foal appeared before her. To her joy the foal was alive and well, and to top it off the beautiful filly had beautiful wings to match Phaedrus. She was a beautiful representation of the love she and Phaedrus shared. She nuzzled up to the filly cleaning her Analiese she spoke gently to the filly, looking at her with pure joy.

    PHAEDRUS
He could never take offense, or be disappointed with someone over events they could not control, so as with everything he took the news with more concern for Zaravich’s wellbeing than anything else when they lost the foal. He gave her space understanding the loss of both Josie and a newborn that she had been looking forward to for a few years at that point. When his name is called he comes, and this time there was nothing hindering him from doing so immediately. The sight of mother and child was a delight and a relief. They were both alive, stepping towards Zaravich he smiles widely at her. He was happy to see the life back on her face. No longer down, or depressed, but just gleeful.

It’s a beautiful name He wraps his wing around Zara again giving the foal room to be close to her mother though. Its then that Sheba makes an appearance in the tree top, hissing and yowling her complaints as the branch snaps and she runs tail tucked and ears flat to Phaedrus’ side. He scowls at her thinking that she had once again bitten off something more than she could chew. What now? He growls at the cat impatiently. Something funny is going on over there and I don’t like it! Not one bit, there is something over there and its…. Its unnatural He can’t help the snort, You’re one to talk. She slits her eyes at him menacingly. Its then that she spots the foal and her ears prick forward. How thoughtful you brought me a new friend She purrs out rubbing against the foal. Sniffing it and grooming at it a little.

He sighs giving up, No point in arguing that her. He murmurs under his breath, but the flicking tail is all he needs to know that she had heard. Turning back to Zara he nudges at her neck gently, checking her to make sure that she was alright. He couldn’t be more proud than he already was of her. She had brought a touch of kindness and elegance to the herd that before was lacking. Everyone seemed to bring something to the group, a tad bit of evidence that small groups that were closely knit were sure to thrive much better than others who were alone, or didn’t have a support net they could fall back on. This part of his curiosity had been satisfied, kingdoms flourished when their members had a family they could go back to. He wondered if this information would be useful to Ramiel or not? He still needed to figure out that small little thing that was nagging at the back of his mind. It didn’t seem to want to piece itself together. Taking a moment to move his muzzle from her mother, he reaches to caress their daughter for a moment taking comfort in the small group that huddled in that moment.

the words she knows the tune she hums

Sure enough Phaedrus appeared to view his new child, she felt complete when he was around, like a family. She would never forget the one that they lost, but Analiese made it easy to move past, a perfect resemblance of her and Phaedrus.

He wrapped his wing around Zara, she smiled humbly and hoisted her body from the ground, she gently nudged the foal towards her teat, insisting she feeds.Once the foal latched she turned to face Phaedrus, extended her neck to nuzzle on his shoulder. She looks just like you She smiled, but her attention snapped to Sheba who was in a tree top nearby. She looked up and listened to the feline who had an odd feeling, like something was out there. Phaedrus was quick to silence Sheba which caused Zara to laugh. I almost forgot! her voice was filled with laughter, she gave a gently whinny and the black wolf appeared from hiding. Pondering his way over he tucked his right leg under his chest, head following, giving a greeting to the strangers. "Hello, My name is Zaphod" the wolf said slowly turning his gaze to the cat.

Zara smiled and turned to Phaedrus It has been a while since we went to the waters! But this is my spirit animal she spoke with joy, Zaphod had only been around for about a season, but he kept her company when she wanted no one else's.

Analiese was feeding but stopped when a cat almost as big as her began grooming her. Her eyes grew wide as she looked at it, but her response was to laugh. Her tail swayed and she lowered her head to snort at the cat, jumping around playfully with the feline.

Zara turned to watch the cat and her foal play, it was almost like watching Josie play, Sheba was one great babysitter. Her gaze trailed back to Phaedrus when he nuzzled her neck, a small nicker escaped her mouth as she returned the nuzzle. She moved pressing her body against his, he helped to make her picture perfect family come to life. She loved Phaedrus, but would never admit it to him. With all the mares she knew he could not love them all. Instead of ruining the moment she stood enjoying the company he offered She is truly perfect she said staring at Analiese and Sheba playing.
